Taking the popularity case, Photoshop is one of the popular
tools for a Graphic Design projects, but there is a tool Light room which is
getting popular among the Graphic designer for the image editing.
I think that this is pretty difficult to say which one of
them (Photoshop or Lightroom) is the best for a Photographer or Graphic
Designer. I think that both of these tools will be found in the system of a
Graphic designer and Photographer.
It is a good thing that we make a comparison to know that
which one of them is the best!
Photoshop Strengths
Photoshop is a pixel based image editing tool. Using Photoshop
strengthens your ability of image editing. Photoshop is an excellent tool for the
following tasks:
Renovating:
As almost everyone uses this for the purpose of retouching,
renovating and editing images. Many photographers own this to clean the
pictures in an easiest way. PS offers superb tool kit for image renovation.
Working in Layer:
Another good feature of Photoshop is working in layer. This
offers capability of adding, removing or editing any specific layer. So the chances
of mistake get minimize. Ant layer you
select can be edited by double click on it. A new window that opens offers
excellent tool kit for the image editing. You can also change the opacity of an
image.
Creating:
Some people create the banners and wallpapers in Photoshop.
However for the small to larger image creation illustrator is more preferable, but
Photoshop is an excellent way to collect images from different sources, cropping
or cutting them and combining them.
Export the Image:
Photoshop gives multiple options in saving images. You can
save them in any of the required format (PNG24, JPEG Very High and Jpeg High).
Weakness:
Along with all these strengths Photoshop gets weaker
sometimes for some people. The weaknesses are:
- Expensive
- Sometimes it is difficult for a designer to choose certain tool.
- It is not a Raw File editor.
Lightroom Strengths:
Coming to the second tool Lightroom now, this is also a good
accessory for the designers. This tool also has some Pros and Cons of the
usage.
Raw Files Process:
A good thing that we noticed about Photoshop is that PS does
not process the raw files. Hence LR has an excellent capability of processing
raw files. It’s a tool that can quickly edit contrast, saturation or exposure
of an image.
Other strengths are:
- Efficient workflow
- Image Import
- Raw Processing
- Sharing on social media
- Creating slideshows
- Presets can be applies to images simultaneously unless in Photoshop
- Easy to learn
- Non-destructive (Editing does not happen on the original image)
- Affordable
Weakness of LR:
- Not for the extensive retouching
- This is suitable for photographers.
- Not for advance editing.
Conclusion:
PS is good for Photographers and Graphic Designers but LR is
only for photographers. SO I guess both are good at their place.
